What do Didappers eat?
Didappers are carnivorous birds and primarily feed on small fish, insects, and crustaceans. They are skilled swimmers and divers and use their wings to propel themselves underwater to catch their prey. They can also catch insects and other small invertebrates by diving and searching among aquatic vegetation.
The diet of Didappers may vary depending on the season and the availability of food in their habitat. They may feed on a variety of small fish, including minnows, tadpoles, and small crustaceans, such as freshwater shrimps and snails. Occasionally, they may also feed on larger prey such as frogs, worms, and even small birds or mammals.
During the breeding season, Didapper parents may also supplement their chicks’ diet with insects and other small invertebrates to provide them with the necessary nutrients for growth and development.
